There are a number of leisure activities available in and around Peterborough specifically designed for Children with disabilities.

These can be a great opportunity for you and your family to meet others and for your children to participate in activities in a more SEN friendly way.

Jack Hunt School: Friday night club this is a swimming group for disabled and sensory impaired people and their families, which aims to equip you to be able to go into mainstream swimming.   Tel: 01733 264644

Ferry Meadows/Nene Park There is disabled access to most of the park including the bird hides. Powered scooters and wheelchairs are available on free loan for use in the park but it is advisable to telephone in advance to check if one is free. There are accessible toilets at the visitor centre and the water sports centre. A Braille map is available for blind visitors.

The Key Theatre has four wheelchair seats L8, L10, L29, L31 each has a carers seat beside. There is an infra red hearing system, with five loops and five headsets, which are available from reception also. The Showcase cinema complex is fully accessible to wheelchairs. Some films are available with sub titles (check for details). They have loop systems, accessible toilets and carers accompanying disabled people will not be charged an entrance fee. Tel: 01733 555636

Fun Instructional New Skills (FINS) Swimming Club runs every week during term time and is a swimming club for young people with a range of learning, sensory or physical abilities. Contact Community Sports Development Officer on Tel: 01733 863760.

Swimming Both the Regional and Jack Hunt pools have hoists to help you into the water and prefer prior notification so that they can make sure that the appropriate help is available when you need it. For Regional Pool Tel: 01733 551474

Sailability is one of the very few sports in which able-bodied sailors and disabled sailors can participate on equal terms. Sailability encourages and supports disabled people to take up the sport. Peterborough Sailability meets every Tuesday from April to October at Ferry Meadows, Tel: 07948 262919 for details.

Riding for the Disabled Horse riding is available for disabled children up to the age of 16 years and is available Monday to Friday term times only.  At RDA, our horses and ponies provide therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with disabilities. Peterborough United Football Club has room for 10 wheelchair users and carers, and walking disabled people. If you are in a wheelchair you pay half price and the carer is admitted free. Bushfield Sports Centre Peterborough, PE2 5RQ has a Pulsestar Fitness Studio which can accommodate disabled people at almost any time but it is advisable to telephone first. There is a cost per session. Discounts are available for disabled people. Tel: 01733 864656
